Today was another busy day here in Las Vegas at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting. If possible, I think the Venetian/Sands Expo Convention and Expo Center was even more crowded than yesterday – and people seemed to be on a mission to get to instructional course lectures, paper sessions, technical exhibits, and, of course, the scientific exhibit hall.
For me, the best part of the day was attending the inaugural American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Resident Assembly (RA) meeting. Having been part of this organization during its development, it has truly been remarkable to see the AAOS recognize us as an official organization.
The RA is essentially the voice of the residents within the AAOS, and today marked our official first day in action. With my fellow executive committee members, we introduced the RA to the residents attending the annual meeting and shared our goals and visions for the upcoming year. One of the guest speakers at this inaugural meeting was Frederick Azar, MD, president of the AAOS. It was a privilege to get to hear him speak in support of the RA.

It was amazing to witness and participate in this inaugural meeting. I am excited for what residents will accomplish within the AAOS via the tools and opportunity provided by the RA. With that, I will conclude with a big shout out to the RA executive committee – great job team!
