Biomet recently announced the passing of co-founder Dane A. Miller, PhD.

As one of the four founders of Biomet, and as CEO from 1977 to 2006, Miller helped grow the company exponentially during his leadership. Under his guidance, Biomet expanded from $17,000 in revenues in 1978 to more than $2 billion in sales in 2006, according to a company press release.

The company also benefitted from his background in biomedical engineering, as Biomet’s advancements in biomaterials and implant design owe a substantial debt to Miller.

“It is impossible in one short statement to give justice to his impact on our company, on our industry and on the communities where we operate,” Jeff Binder, current president and CEO of Biomet, said in the release. “Dane’s influence will continue to be felt by our communities, our industry and the people whose lives he touched. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dane’s family, and with those who loved him.”
