The North American Spine Society recently announced it has achieved the “Accreditation with Commendation” distinction from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education for its efforts to provide high-quality physician education.

The accreditation will last through November 2020 and was awarded based on a review of the North American Spine Society’s (NASS’) self-study report, evidence of performance-in-practice and an accreditation interview. Only 20% of the providers in the November 2014 decision cohort received the accreditation commendation, according to a NASS press release.

NASS annually provides a full-catalog of medical and surgical educational opportunities. Its 2014 annual meeting was attended by more than 3,200 professionals interested in the care of patients with spinal disorders.

The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education is responsible for accrediting U.S. institutions that offer continuing medical education (CME) through a voluntary, self-regulatory system. Approximately 2,000 CME providers are accredited in the United States, providing educational activities to more than 24 million health care practitioner participants annually, according to the release.
