For the third consecutive year, Ortech Systems donated its data registry product for Operation Walk USA.

Operation Walk USA provides all aspects of treatment for hip or knee replacements, including surgery, hospitalization and pre- and postoperative care, at no cost to participating patients who may not qualify for government health coverage, have insurance or afford surgery on their own, according to a company press release.

To enable participating hospitals to efficiently and accurately capture data on surgeries and procedures provided to patients in need, Ortech Systems provided its web-based system for free. It was estimated that in 2014, 120 patients would receive free joint replacements. All Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-compliant data collected during Operation Walk USA will be transferred to the American Joint Replacement Registry, according to the release.

“It’s important for us to capture data on Operation Walk USA surgeries as we would any surgery, and to compare our patient outcomes to the national standard,” Adolph V. Lombardi Jr., MD, president of Operation Walk USA, said in the press release. “When we see patients, it’s clear the result is transformative in their lives. Capturing data is further proof of this success.”
