Cedars-Sinai Health System announced the finalization of an affiliation agreement between Cedars-Sinai, the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic and Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group.
Initially announced via a letter of intent in 2013, the affiliation will enhance both the level of patient care through expanded clinical trials and collaborative treatment between the affiliates as well as the geographic reach of all three organizations. A greater use of orthobiologics to minimize surgical necessity will be a focal point of this agreement, as will pediatric sports medicine, sports neurology and concussion, and the establishment of a movement performance center and employer-facilitated return-to-work program for patients.
Despite this affiliation agreement, each entity will continue to see patients on an independent basis as well.
“Cedars-Sinai’s orthopedic program is already ranked as the best in the West and is in the top 10 nationally, so when we partner with such outstanding orthopedic groups as Kerlan-Jobe and Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine, the possibilities for taking orthopedics and sports medicine to an unprecedented new level for patients are extraordinary,” Thomas M. Priselac, president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai, stated in a press release.
“As a pioneer in the field of sports medicine and orthopedics, Kerlan-Jobe is very excited to be part of this unprecedented partnership that brings together three of the world’s best orthopedics groups,” Neal ElAttrache, MD, chair and fellowship program head of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Foundation, stated.
“We now have the unique opportunity to create a global center for all aspects of sports medicine and orthopedics, encompassing clinical care, professional sports team physician activities, translational research and education,” Bert Mandelbaum, MD, chair and fellowship program head of the Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group Foundation, stated in the release.
