DePuy Synthes recently announced the launch of two new angle plating systems that feature the company’s proprietary angle locking technology.

Introduced during the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and the International Federation of Foot and Ankle Society Meetings in Chicago, the systems are designed to enable surgeons to better angle screw trajectories to match patients’ needs, according to a company press release.

The DePuy Synthes Trauma 2.7-mm variable angle locking calcaneal plating (VA LCP) system provides new plate designs for both a lateral extensile approach and a minimally invasive approach. The system’s low-profile, precontoured plates are designed for the treatment of simple and complex fractures and offer the ability to target key areas of hard cortical bone in the calcaneus. Additionally, the system’s instrumentation is meant to assist in the reduction of fractures, according to the release.

The 3.5-mm VA LCP medial column fusion plating system with variable angle locking technology provides advanced stabilization capabilities for fusion procedures. Featuring plantar and talus extension medial column fusion plates, the system’s plates enable surgeons to independently compress each joint with a gain of up to 6 mm of compression, according to the release.

DePuy Synthes also announced the release of a new screw-targeting clamp instrument set, which will give surgeons the ability to maintain compression while inserting screws through targeted areas. The screws included in the set range in sizes from 3.5 mm to 7.3 mm.
