Medtronic has announced the launch of its Kyphon Express II balloon kyphoplasty platform.

The platform, which includes a new-generation Kyphon cement delivery system, is the company’s newest technology for the treatment of vertebral compression fractures, according to a company press release.

Featuring a maximum pressure rating of 700 psi, the new system also provides physicians the option of using a cement-resistant technique that allows one balloon to remain inflated during the contralateral cement fill to help reduce fractures.

The cement delivery system is designed to increase the precision and efficiency of bone cement delivery into the vertebral body. Additionally, the system’s redesigned cement cartridges are able to be filled simultaneously, which also helps increase efficiency, according to the release.
