Baxano Surgical announced recently that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued two patents for Baxano Surgical technologies.

The issuance brings the company’s patent portfolio to 92 in the U.S., according to a company press release.

U.S. Patent No. 8,795,167 relates to the direct visualization approach of the VEO Lateral Access and Interbody Fusion System. The patent covers the company’s Reveal retractor assembly for enlarging a gap in tissue, such as the psoas muscle, in a lateral approach to the spine.

The Reveal retractor enables direct visualization of the psoas, which is made possible due to Reveal’s proprietary, two-stage retraction process, according to the press release.

United States Patent No. 8747,472 covers the company’s bone-anchoring assemblies that are part of the AxiaLIF Plus line of interbody devices.
