High tibial osteotomy in young patients superior to UKA, TKA at long-term follow-up

Researchers observed patients younger than 50 years of age had fewer complications and a better mortality rate at 30-year follow-up when they first underwent high tibial osteotomy as opposed to unicompartmental arthroplasty or total knee arthroplasty as treatment for medical compartment osteoarthritis.

In an article in Orthopaedics Today Europe, investigators said they observed acceptable overall results through the 20-year follow-up point, but results decreased in the ensuing decade. The study is scheduled to be presented at the upcoming EFORT Congress – A Combined Program in Partnership With the BOA in London. Click here to read the full story.
