Brainlab and Mobius receive CE Mark approval for new system
Brainlab, a global medical technology company, and Mobius, a developer of advanced imaging technology, received CE Mark approval for the Airo Mobile Intraoperative CT.
“In light of the enormous market response Airo has already experienced around the world, we are eager to begin installation and use in Europe,” Stefan Vilsmeier, President and CEO at Brainlab, stated in a press release. “We are dedicated to meeting the growing demand for real-time imaging in the O.R. to improve and expedite clinical decision-making which benefits both the patient and the surgical team. Airo surpasses this demand and we are pleased to now be able to provide our European customers with this advanced imaging system,” he stated.
The CE Mark allows Brainlab to begin installation of the systems already sold in the European Union, according to the release.
The Airo system produces high-quality CT images that can improve surgical decision-making and support minimally invasive surgery, as noted in the press release. The portable scanner provides reproducible high-resolution images, due to an integrated OR table column and 32-slice helical scan detector array.
“Receiving CE Mark approval for our flagship product, Airo, is a significant milestone for Mobius Imaging,” Gene Gregerson, CEO of Mobius Imaging, stated.
The first European shipments of the product were expected to begin in April 2014.
