SAN FRANCISCO — Troy M. Tippett, MD, FAANS, received the American Association of Neurological Surgeons’ highest member honor – the Harvey Cushing Medal.

Tippett, who is retired from private practice, currently serves as the president of the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation. He is a past president of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and also served on the AANS Board of Directors for many years.

“Words cannot express how much I appreciate and love the AANS,” Tippett stated in an AANS press release.

The award was bestowed on Tippett during one of the plenary sessions, here.

“The last few weeks our Church has been having sermons on the seven deadly sins. I keep going every week thinking the next one won’t apply to me but so far I am batting a hundred,” started his award acceptance remarks.

Noting pride as one of the deadly sins, he said “I think it is probably okay for me to be really proud of all the people in this audience who have done so much me look better than I am all these years. So on their behalf I accept this award.” – by Joan-Marie Stiglich, ELS
