Congress of Neurological Surgeons appoints new executive committee ex-officio members

The Congress of Neurological Surgeons announced the appointment of Mustafa K. Baskaya, MD, Ricardo J. Komotar, MD, FAANS, and Krystal L. Tomei, MD, MPH, as ex-officio members of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Executive Committee.
Baskaya is vice chair of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) International Division (Turkey) and a member of the CNS Portal Committee (Tumor). Currently an associate professor of Neurological Surgery and director of the Skull Base Surgery Program at the University of Wisconsin, he serves as an associate editor of Neuroanatomy and on the editorial boards of ISNR Neurology, Surgical Neurology International and Contemporary Neurosurgery, and is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies Skull base committee, AANS/CNS Cerebrovascular Section Executive Committee, Turkish Neurosurgical Society, European Association of Neurological Surgeons and North American Skull Base Society.
Komotar is assistant professor of neurological surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He is also co-chair of the CNS Fellowships Committee and a member of the CNS Member Development Committee He serves as director of the University of Miami Brain Tumor Initiative, director of Neurooncology at the University of Miami Hospital and co-director of neuro-oncology at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center/University of Miami Health Clinics. Komotar has more than 300 peer reviewed scientific articles, book chapters and invited editorials, and is a reviewer for Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery and Journal of Neurooncology. He is an active member of the AANS, Society of Neuro-Oncology, North American Skull base Society, Society of Neurological Surgeons, Neurosurgical Society of America, AANS/CNS Section on Tumors, Florida Neurosurgical Society and the Florida Brain Tumor Association. He is founder and director of the Annual Neurosurgery Charity Softball Tournament.
Tomei is chair of the CNS Resident Committee, liaison to the CNS Portal Committee and a member of the AANS/CNS Guidelines Committee and AANS/CNS Quality Improvement Workgroup. Currently a pediatric neurosurgery fellow at the Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Tomei was the recipient of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award and the first NJMS Golden Apple Specialty Resident Teaching Award. She is active in numerous professional societies and organizations, including the AANS, where she serves as the secretary of the Young Neurosurgeons Committee and is a member of the Neurosurgery PAC Board of Directors; American Medical Association, where she serves as resident/fellow member of the Council on Medical Education; and the American College of Surgeons. A special interest in neurotrauma and injury prevention led to her position on the board of directors of the ThinkFirstNational Injury Prevention Foundation.
