Smith & Nephew extends total knee system

Smith & Nephew announced an extension to the Legion Total Knee System — the Legion Narrow Femoral Components with Oxinium Oxidized Zirconium.

According to a company press release, the new implants are thinner in the medial/lateral dimension to give orthopedic surgeons the ability to more closely fit a patient’s natural anatomy. The components also address implant wear performance with the use of Verilast Technology, which can improve the wear performance of the implant.

“Two of the biggest concerns with any total knee replacement are wear performance and fit,” Scott Elliot, senior vice president and general manager of Reconstruction Strategic Business Unit for Smith & Nephew’s Advanced Surgical Device Division, stated in the release. “With the Legion Total Knee System, we offer an unprecedented solution to both: Verilast Technology for wear performance and new size options to address patient fit.”
