Paradigm Spine has announced that Hallet Mathews, MD, MBA is the company’s new executive vice president and chief medical officer.

A board certified orthopedic spinal surgeon who practiced spinal surgery for 22 years, Mathews was president of MidAtlantic Spine Specialists in Richmond, Vt., and an associate clinical professor of orthopedic and neurologic surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University. He later became vice president of medical affairs at Medtronic Spine and Biologics before becoming vice president of clinical affairs and later chief medical officer. He was also president of Musculoskeletal, Clinical and Regulatory Advisors, LLC.

Mathews is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a former member of the board of directors for both the North American Spine Society and the Spine Arthroplasty Society. Additionally, he is a member and past president of the International Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.

“We are thrilled to have someone of the caliber, reputation and expertise of Dr. Mathews join our organization, and we are even more excited at having him join during such a critical inflection point in our history,” Marc R. Viscogliosi, chairman and chief executive officer of Paradigm Spine, stated in a company press release. “Hal brings significant market, clinical and practitioner perspective knowledge to a company that we believe will significantly change the landscape and composition of the spine industry.”
