K2M Inc announced in a press release that the company has launched its Serengeti Complex Spine Minimally Invasive Retractor System at the Scoliosis Research Society 2012 Annual Meeting in Chicago.
Serengeti Complex Spine reportedly provides surgeons with the ability to address deformity, trauma and tumor while promoting tissue preservation. According to the release, the system features next generation instrumentation to perform complex reductions, controlled manipulation and above-skin compression and distraction without compromising the option for direct visualization. Combining the benefits of a traditional rigid system with the benefits of the flexible, polymer Serengeti Retractor, the system provides the ability to attach and remove the minimally invasive reduction tunnels intraoperatively and features a screw-based method of retraction which allows for a fixed position to the anatomy and provides a one-step, percutaneous placement of the screw and retractor. This provides improved access for rod introduction.
“This important advancement of our already well received Serengeti Minimally Invasive Retractor System serves as the intersection of our innovation efforts by combining our core competency in deformity with our award-winning minimally invasive technology,” Eric Major, president and CEO of K2M, stated in the release. “Serengeti Complex Spine stands up to the challenge of addressing complex pathologies within a less invasive environment, resulting in more options for surgeons with the ultimate objective of improved outcomes for their patients.”
