Zimmer introduces new shoulder system

Zimmer Holdings Inc. recently introduced its new Sidus Stem Free Shoulder system.
According to a company release, the shoulder system is ideal for patients with early to mid-stage osteoarthritis and minimal articulate deformities who may be candidates for resurfacing, hemi-arthroplasty and total arthroplasty. It reportedly offers a less invasive procedure which requires minimal bone resection.
The shoulder system, according to the release, comprises a range of anatomically matched options to enable accurate restoration with the constraints of fixed inclinations, medial offset or posterior offset.
Featuring a bone-conserving design which preserves bone stock for future interventions while avoiding some of the clinical issues associated with traditional stemmed solutions, the Sidus Stem Free Shoulder system has an open design that protects anchoring and improves rotational stability while allowing bone in-growth.
“The Sidus Stem-Free Shoulder offers a new solution for the shoulder arthroplasty continuum of care, bridging the gap between traditional stemmed and resurfacing shoulder implants,” Katarzyna Mazur, president of Zimmer Reconstructive EMEA, stated in the release. “As a result of this technology, patients will benefit from a less invasive surgery, bone preservation and more personalized fit.”
