Smith & Nephew launches open-architecture suture anchor for rotator cuff repair

Smith & Nephew has announced in a press release the launch of its new Healicoil PK suture anchor.

The anchor, according to a company release, eliminates inner diameter material and provides more thread engagement and greater pull out strength.

The design of the anchor also leaves less material in the shoulder than traditional, solid-core anchors, the release noted, which may be beneficial in procedures where space is limited and multiple anchors are required — such as double-row rotator cuff repair.

“With its distinctive open-architecture design, the Healicoil PK suture anchor brings a new level of innovation to rotator cuff repair,” Alain Tranchemontagne, senior vice president within Smith & Nephew’s Advanced Surgical Devices division, stated in the release.
