Zimmer Holdings, Inc. announced at the 2011 EuroSpine meeting that it has entered into a multi-year exclusive agreement with Benvenue Medical, Inc. to distribute Benvenue’s Kiva VCF Treatment System.

According to a joint-company press release, the Kiva System, which received CE-mark approval in 2008, provides an innovative approach to treatment of painful vertebral compression fractures ( VCFs). It delivers a percutaneously-introduced, cylindrical PEEK-OPTIMA implant to stabilize and provide structural support to the vertebral body and serves as a conduit for bone cement placement.

The Kiva System will represent the first VCF product offering in Zimmer’s product portfolio. According to the release, the system will initially be distributed in Germany and Italy with potential for more widespread availability throughout Europe Middle East and Africa in the future.

“We are very excited about working exclusively with Zimmer to expand access to the Kiva System outside the United States,” Robert Weigle, chief executive officer of Benvenue Medical, stated in the press release. “Zimmer spine has a powerful distribution network and will accelerate sales, training and clinical support for Kiva.”
