Zimmer releases Maxera Cup for active patients

Zimmer Holdings Inc. introduced the Maxera Cup, a new product for younger and more active patients. It features either the Biolox delta or Biolox Option large femoral heads, with sizes of 32 mm to 48 mm. According to a company press release, the large femoral heads provide increased range of motion, stability, functionality, and reduced risk of dislocation. The full hemispherical design has three sets of paired anti-rotation fins to ensure rotational stability and stable fixation.

It also provides low wear and high fracture resistance, as well as chemical and hydrothermal stability through the use of ceramic-on-ceramic design as opposed to metal-on-metal. The cup uses a familiar surgical technique for orthopedic surgeons, who can choose the press-fit based on the patients’ bone quality using Maxera Cup instrumentation.

The Maxera cup is not available for commercial distribution in the United States.
