Zimmer Holdings Inc. has in a press release announced the launch of the Retrograde Femoral Nail, the newest product in the Zimmer Natural Nail line.

According to the release, the new nails vary in length to better match the patient’s anatomy. To help the Retrograde Femoral Nail better match the patient’s original anatomy, the bows in the system vary by nail length to reflect the anterior femoral bow that changes relative to a patient’s height. The Retrograde Femoral Nail is available as either a short or long nail — both with an anterior bow of 1,275 mm — and is applicable for a range of indications in distal femur fracture cases.

“A key advantage of the ZNN Retrograde Femoral nail is the variety of distal screw trajectory options the system offers,” Clive V. Ridgwell, Zimmer vice president Trauma, Europe, Middle East and Africa, stated in a company release. “The system allows surgeons to place screws in the standard transverse position and also obliquely, enabling fixation in the distal posterior condyles, which is of particular interest in surgeries marked by poor bone quality.”
