Stanmore Implants announced that its silver-treated modular implant system has received an European CE mark. The silver-treated massive endoprosthesis tumor system (METS) technology, which can be manufactured for several orthopedic skeletal locations, including the femur, tibia, knee, pelvis and humerus, greatly reduces the risk for infection in the patient.

“With infection being a major burden on the health care system and often leading to avoidable amputations, we are delighted to secure approval for our silver treated METS system,” Brian Steer, the executive chairman of Stanmore, stated in a company press release. “There is increasing evidence to support silver’s antimicrobial properties, and incorporating it into our METS system puts Stanmore in a strong competitive position.”
