KOLOA, Hawaii — Orthopedics Today Hawaii 2011 kicked off with a traditional island chant, a blare from a conch shell and a full schedule of presentations on knee meniscus and ligaments, articular cartilage treatments, hip arthroscopy and a special session on dealing with the stresses of juggling an orthopedic practice and a happy home life.

“As always, what makes our course so successful is the faculty,” said Course Chair Douglas W. Jackson, MD. “We chose people that you want to hear talk and describe their experiences, as these are people who are out there in practice, doing the work and are experts in the areas of their presentations.”

Opening ceremony

Interspersed throughout the meeting, attendees have the chance to interact with the faculty through question-and-answer sessions tallied and recorded by an audience response system. Through this system, the faculty can quiz the attendees about the data presented or ask them how they would treat presented cases. Data collected through the system will be used throughout the year in related articles in Orthopedics Today.
