As worldwide support for earthquake relief in Haiti continues to grow, Medtronic Inc. has pledged $1 million for immediate and long-term earthquake relief efforts in Haiti through the Medtronic Foundation.
Contributions from product and employee donations alone could exceed $1.25 million, Medtronic officials stated in a company press release.
The foundation will match employee donations up to $250,000 with matching funds directed to Partners in Health, an organization that has worked in Haiti for more than 20 years.
Varied assistance
An additional $750,000 in grants from Medtronic will be directed to rebuilding the health care infrastructure in the earthquake-damaged country. The foundation is currently assessing potential nonprofit partners to lead those efforts.
Medtronic employees worldwide have been offered 5 days of paid leave to assist with recovery efforts in Haiti, according to the release.
In addition to monetary contributions, company officials noted that Medtronic is actively exploring product donations through several of its partners already working in Haiti.
Medtronic already supports the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies disaster relief fund through a 5-year, $500,000 grant,, which ensures that immediate financial support is available for responding to emergencies worldwide.
