Orthopedics Today Hawaii 2012 will return to Maui this year, the site of our first Hawaii meeting. The meeting is jointly sponsored by Orthopedics Today, the International Congress for Joint Reconstruction, and Vindico Medical Education.

We are committed to the best continuing medical education we can bring you. Our goal is to present clinically relevant educational content in a stimulating and interactive environment.

The 2012 program will have more focused case-based presentations in sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, total joint replacement, shoulder, trauma and spine conditions. The faculty will present pro-con debates throughout the meeting. The Practice Management session on Sunday will feature discussions on the benefits and disadvantages of being a hospital-employed physician and how to survive in private practice.

Attendees and faculty are invited to meet at the end of the day with faculty and colleagues for our popular Banyan Tree Sessions. This is an opportunity to have one-on-one interactions with the faculty members about their presentations or seek advice on challenging cases. I have learned a great deal from these informal gatherings; almost as much as from attending the formal presentations.

In addition, Tuesday afternoon will feature a session on Marriage, Stress and Orthopedic Practice. Attendees and their spouses or significant others are encouraged to attend. While this session is not approved for AMA PRA Category 1 credit, our speakers, John D. Kelly IV, MD, and his wife Marie Sakosky-Kelly, RN, make it a worthwhile discussion and many find it a thought provoking and a good check on the balance in their lives.

I look forward to the quality family time before and after the meeting as well as the interactions with colleagues.

Aloha.
