Bausch + Lomb recently announced the U.S. launch of Opal, a digital e-commerce marketplace designed to streamline ordering of contact lenses and other products, according to a press release.

“Opal is an all-in-one digital platform that offers faster, more convenient ordering of Bausch + Lomb products, helping to save staff time, boost patient loyalty and reduce the administrative burden for participating eye care practices,” Yang Yang, the company’s president of global vision care, said in the release. “This platform is the latest example of our continued focus on meeting the evolving needs of eye care professionals and their patients.”

According to the release, the Opal platform is accessible for both providers and patients and features order tracking and history, appointment reminders and automated prescription reminders. Orders made via Opal include free shipping directly to patients or practices, and patients can earn points with each purchase through Bausch + Lomb’s Horizon Rewards loyalty program.

The company plans to add select over-the-counter products, including Lumify redness reliever eye drops and Blink eye drops, to the platform in the months ahead.

“Opal allows my patients to order their Bausch + Lomb products directly from my practice, whether they’re in the office or elsewhere,” Jason Tu, OD, past president of the California Optometric Association and Opal beta tester, said in the release. “This not only enhances convenience for my patients but also supports the growth of my business. As a private practice owner, creating efficiencies in my back-office processes is crucial, and Opal significantly contributes to that.”
