Bausch + Lomb has announced that its Soothe antibiotic drops have been approved by Health Canada for over-the-counter use in the treatment of external infections of the eye and ear, according to a company press release.
“There is growing demand for over-the-counter products that effectively address common eye and ear infections,” John Ferris, Bausch + Lomb’s executive vice president of consumer, said in the release. “Soothe antibiotic drops will provide Canadian consumers with a new convenient and effective option.”
According to the release, the drops are approved for adults and children aged 6 years and older and may be used to treat conditions such as bacterial conjunctivitis and swimmer’s ear. The product is packaged in a 10 mL squeeze bottle and contains polymyxin B sulfate 10,000 units/mL and gramicidin 0.025 mg/mL.
“Soothe antibiotic drops offer consumers and clinicians a single treatment option that is conveniently available over the counter without a prescription,” Dharmesh Vaghela, BSc, a pharmacist in Mississauga, Ontario, said in the release.
The eye drops will be available at major Canadian retailers in June 2025.
