The American Academy of Optometry Foundation and Meta Reality Labs will fund a $1.5 million grant for three independent research studies on longitudinal visual experience and myopia outcomes, according to a foundation press release.

“This industry-sponsored research opportunity opens the door to transformative partnerships, where academic rigor meets real-world application, to drive innovation and create solutions to benefit both science and society,” Rachel A. “Stacey” Coulter, OD, MS, FAAO, FCOVD, AAOF president, said in the release.

Through the grant’s open-science model, researchers will make study data publicly available for additional comparison, reproducibility and analysis by others, allowing for a more collaborative research effort.

Submission criteria and application information will be announced at Academy 2024 on Nov. 9.
