Healio Honors celebrates 4 outstanding optometrists

Four optometrists who have gone “above and beyond in their fields and for their patients” are among the 2024 honorees of the peer-to-peer recognition program Healio Honors, according to a Healio press release.

“Our honorees this year embody the ingenuity and determination that characterize the very best of the health care community,” Joan-Marie Stiglich, ELS, Healio’s chief content officer, said in the release. “With Healio Honors, we’re excited to showcase not just their stories of science, but also of heart, resilience and boundless dedication to the betterment of health.”

2024 Healio Honorees Announced
This year’s honorees include four outstanding optometrists who excel in their profession.

According to the release, the program this year recognized 50 health care professionals in 23 different specialties from 43 institutions. The optometrists honored are: Melissa Barnett, OD, FAAO, FSLS, FBCLA, principal optometrist at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento; John Gelles, OD, director of the specialty contact lens division at the Cornea and Laser Eye Institute and Healio blogger; Brooke Messer, OD, FAAO, FSLS, practitioner at Vance Thompson Vision and co-chair of the International Congress of Scleral Contacts; and Nathan Schramm, OD, FSLS, practitioner at Insight Vision Center and principal investigator for WaveFront Dynamics.

These honorees, nominated by their peers, are recognized for elevating medicine, transforming health and igniting excellence within their daily practices.
