ThinOptics, a manufacturer of ultra-slim reading glasses, has launched its Prescription on Demand service for purchase of customized prescription eye wear online, the company announced in a press release.

“We see tremendous potential for collaboration between optometrists and ThinOptics,” Gadi Ponte, CEO and co-founder of ThinOptics, told Healio. “Our Prescription on Demand service is designed to complement the crucial role of eye care professionals, not replace it.”

According to the release, the lightweight glasses have free-form lenses, which are crafted using computer algorithms to precisely meet the visual needs of the user, with an accuracy of 1/100th of a diopter. They are made from scratch-resistant polycarbonate and feature anti-reflection coating to reduce glare.

Through the Prescription on Demand service, consumers can upload their prescription, select customization options and have the glasses delivered to their home. The company offers single vision, progressive and plano lenses, in addition to photochromic lenses and blue-light filtering lenses.

“The Prescription on Demand service dramatically expands our addressable market from adults over 40 to the entire population requiring prescription eye wear,” Ponte told Healio. “By combining personalization, on-demand service and our signature ultra-lightweight design, we’re not just entering a new category, we’re redefining expectations in the corrective eye wear industry — making premium, comfortable prescription glasses accessible to everyone who needs them.”
