Optometry Giving Sight has launched a new program, Together Eyecare Achieves Miracles, or TEAM OGS, as a means for optometry practices to raise funds for OGS and support its mission, the nonprofit organization announced in a press release.

“Optometrists and optometry practices are very generous and compassionate,” Lois Schoenbrun, FAAO, OGS’s executive director, said in the release. “Most practices are quite involved in their local communities, whether they have formal corporate social responsibility programs in place or not. Their support of OGS — and participation in TEAM OGS — demonstrate their concern for people throughout the world who have little to no access to vision care.”

Since 2007, OGS has organized the World Sight Day Challenge, its largest fundraiser that runs for 2 months. With TEAM OGS, practices in the United States and Canada can participate year-round in a variety of fundraising activities to help end preventable blindness and vision impairment, including donating a day of eye exam fees each month, giving a percentage of products sold or encouraging patients to donate. Practices can join TEAM OGS at no cost, and materials for participation are provided free of charge.

“We know how busy optometrists and their staffs are, and we wanted to make it easy for them to participate in TEAM OGS, so their focus can remain on caring for patients every day,” Schoenbrun said in the release.
