The public health program InfantSEE, which offers free comprehensive eye and vision health assessments for infants, will collaborate with the American Optometric Association in its 2024 campaign to promote pediatric eye health.
InfantSEE, which is managed by Optometry Cares – The AOA Foundation in partnership with Johnson & Johnson Vision, has facilitated 170,000 infant assessments since the program was launched in 2005, according an AOA press release. To date, more than 14,000 children have received a diagnosis from one of more than 4,200 InfantSEE providers.
“Sight is an important way that children learn and experience the world,” Charissa Lee, OD, MBA, FAAO, head of North America professional affairs at Johnson & Johnson Vision, said in the release. “The InfantSEE program provides essential eye care to children and offers an opportunity for doctors of optometry to educate parents on the importance of comprehensive eye and vision care in children’s development.”
Throughout 2023, InfantSEE hosted several events, including workshops at Optometry’s Meeting, pop-up events at conferences and virtual events in AOA’s EyeLearn. Going into 2024, the program will play a pivotal role in the AOA’s Call for National Pediatric Eye Health and Vision Mobilization initiative, which aims to improve children’s eye health and vision care through a series of federal- and state-level strategies.
“InfantSEE has demonstrated success year-over-year in providing essential care to children, but also offering parents the education and resources they need — ultimately, setting an example of how doctors of optometry can effect change in children’s lives,” Jennifer Zolman, FCOVD, chair of the AOA InfantSEE and children’s vision committee, said in the release.
