A new report released by the Vision Council revealed eye care providers are less confident in recent months about meeting their revenue goals than they were earlier this year.
“Our latest findings from Q3 demonstrate that economic challenges continue to be a top concern for eye care providers across the country, with responses showing that inflation is having the greatest effect on wholesale prices of eye wear and practice supplies,” Alysse Henkel, the council’s senior director of market research and analytics, said in a Vision Council press release. “These impacts are reaching consumers — providers reported that patients continue to be price-sensitive when choosing eye wear and are becoming more price-sensitive about exams as well.”
The report also highlighted concerns about hiring, which continues to be the biggest challenge, with most providers expecting staffing levels to remain the same in 2023. While inflation challenges did not significantly change throughout the year, most providers reported they increased prices for eye wear as a result of higher wholesale costs.
Clinicians who treat childhood myopia reported that compliance and cost of treatment were the two biggest hurdles in successfully treating myopia patients, the report stated.
