Ora Inc. has collaborated with BlindCAN Film Festival to launch the Blind Canvas Project, which combines storytelling with artificial intelligence to create art celebrating the lives of individuals with visual impairment.

According to an Ora press release, the project features interviews with blind individuals, who discuss the life-changing impact of their conditions, and uses generative AI to translate those stories and experiences into multidimensional works of art.

“Participating in this project, surrounded by beautiful artwork and compelling stories, has been an incredible experience,” Ben Fox, founder and president of BlindCAN Film Festival, said in the release. “Even though there are differences in perception, there is a commonality to the human experience of both sighted and those with blindness, that come through the storytelling in this project.”

By sharing these stories and art, the project aims to create awareness and empathy for those with inherited retinal disease, childhood visual impairments, age-related macular degeneration and other blindness-causing conditions.

“This joyful project represents Ora’s heart and soul because our patients are at the center of all we do,” Stuart Abelson, Ora’s president and CEO, said in the release. “The remarkable artwork and extraordinary individuals whose experiences they depict inspire Ora’s daily commitment to weave together people, processes and technology to deliver the highest quality clinical research services in the world.”
