NEW ORLEANS — Contact lenses may have a refractive therapeutic effect on residual higher order aberrations in select patients, according to a speaker at Academy ’23.

“In the foreseeable future, I think it’s something we could all take advantage of to help our patients suffering from residual higher order aberration,” Clark Chang, OD, MSA, MSc, FAAO, from Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, told Healio.

Though this technology promises to be helpful in treating patients with a wide range of conditions, such as keratoconus or irregular cornea, access may be limited.

“Be aware that currently there are only about three or four labs that I am aware of in the United States that have access to this type of engineering technology,” Chang said.
