NEW ORLEANS — Talking to patients about their eligibility for contact lenses can help them explore options for improved vision, according to a speaker at Academy ’23.

“A simple question like, ‘Hey, have you ever considered trying contact lenses?’ can really open the door for patients,” Ariel Cerenzie, OD, FAAO, FSLS, owner of Charlotte Contact Lens Institute in North Carolina, told Healio.

Cerenzie cited a recent report by the U.S. Contact Lens Institute, which showed data-based behaviors can help predict contact lens success. The report found that having consistent conversations with patients who wear glasses about their candidacy can make a difference.

While some patients may be resistant to the idea of trying contact lenses, others may not have been aware that they are good candidates, and “for those patients, you can really offer them something new and exciting and a way to improve their life,” Cerenzie said.
