WASHINGTON — Understanding how to use OCT and interpret the results is critical when diagnosing and treating patients with retinal disease, according to a presenter at the Optometry’s Meeting.

“OCT has really revolutionized and has been a paradigm shift in how we deal with retina disease,” Mohammad Rafieetary, OD, FAAO, of Charles Retina Institute in Germantown, Tennessee, said in this Healio video perspective.

“One of the problems with OCT in my opinion is that there is really no standard way of testing patients and looking at the results,” he continued, noting it can be difficult to make a decision about the purchase of OCT with so many options available.

To help address those concerns, Rafieetary led an interactive workshop at the meeting to give clinicians and imaging staff the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with various OCT instruments.
