WASHINGTON — The Staar Surgical Evo ICL can correct a wide range of myopia in those with thin or irregular corneas, Marc R. Bloomenstein, OD, FAAO, said in this Healio video at Optometry’s Meeting.

“Staar Surgical made the implantable contact lens even better by inserting a small hole, the KS-aquaPort, in the center of the lens, and it now avoids us having to do a peripheral iridotomy,” Bloomenstein, who practices at Schwartz Laser Eye Center in Scottsdale, Arizona, said. “You have ranges from –3 D to –20 D with up to about 4 D of astigmatism.”

Patients who formerly had corneas that were too thin or irregular have been treated successfully with this ICL, he said.

“I can see patients the day after surgery, and they’re seeing 20/15 and 20/20, with very minimal anterior chamber cells or flare,” Bloomenstein said.
