NEW YORK — Advancements in cross-linking will involve performing the procedure with the epithelium on, Mitch Ibach, OD, FAAO, said in this Healio video from Vision Expo East.

Corneal cross-linking performed without removing the epithelium will improve patient comfort, allow for the treatment of younger patients and decrease procedure time, Ibach, who practices at Vance Thompson Vision in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, said.

“Patients with keratoconus or refractive surgery ectasia are either stabilized at the time of topography-guided PRK or maybe it is done with cross-linking first, and then we come back and reshape the cornea,” he said.
