More than 60 eye care organizations and 25,600 practitioners worldwide have accepted the Myopia Management Standard of Care Pledge challenge, a joint initiative created by the World Council of Optometry and CooperVision.

According to a council press release, WCO and CooperVision announced the myopia management standard of care resolution in April 2021. The pledge promotes active management of childhood myopia through mitigation, measurement and management, all of which aim to slow onset and progression of myopia and help prevent serious conditions in adulthood, such as retinal detachment and glaucoma.

“Taking the pledge sends a clear message that organizations and eye care professionals understand the seriousness of myopia as a public health threat and that they are taking active measures to manage that threat,” Sandra Block, OD, MEd, MPH, FAAO, WCO president-elect, said in the release. “We are encouraged to see that so many are actively taking the pledge.”
