Mobile optometry company 20/20 Onsite is making clinical trials more accessible to patients in the United States with the creation of modular, full-service mobile vision pods, the company announced in a press release.

The pods are customizable to the needs and specifications of each clinical trial, making them an ideal solution for studies of at least 3 months duration, the release stated. They can be configured with multiple exam lanes and a waiting room, allowing more patients to be assessed in a short window of time.

“This delivery method allows us to expand the footprint of a clinic or doctor’s office in a unique and fully customizable way,” Adam Merola, senior manager of clinic operations at 20/20 Onsite, said in the release. “We, as a company, are continuing to focus on innovative ways to make our services more accessible and convenient while upholding our standards of a world-class experience from end-to-end.”

The new pods join the company’s two other delivery methods: mobile vision clinics, which bring clinical vision assessments to patients via 40-foot commercial vehicles, and mobile clinical suites, temporary assessment areas for clinics that may not be able to accommodate the vehicles in their parking lots.

“The mobile vision pod is the natural midway point between us coming inside in the mobile clinical suite and us being outside in the mobile vision clinic,” Jess Mays, vice president of life sciences at 20/20 Onsite, said in the release. “These pods have the look and feel of a brick-and-mortar clinic, while still having the mobility and flexibility of our mobile vision clinic. It’s the perfect solution for someone who needs more space and specific equipment and expertise for a medium- to long-term project.”
