Bausch + Lomb has launched a new formulation of PreserVision AREDS 2 Formula eye vitamins with OcuSorb, a proprietary blend of antioxidants reported to reduce the risk for progression of age-related macular degeneration.
According to a company press release, the new mini soft gels contain lutein and zeaxanthin, in addition to four other clinically proven nutrients. The benefits of the formulation were confirmed in the National Eye Institute’s Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS 2) study, which followed 3,883 individuals with moderate to advanced AMD over a 10-year period.
With the OcuSorb formula, “lutein and zeaxanthin are better absorbed in the body, helping to increase the amount of nutrients that can circulate to patient’s eyes,” Rishi Singh, MD, staff physician and president of Cleveland Clinic Martin Hospitals, said in the release. “I am pleased to recommend this new enhanced formula to my patients.”
The new eye vitamins with OcuSorb, now available at most retailers throughout the United States, will replace the current PreserVision AREDS 2 Formula mini gels, the company stated.
“We’re pleased to offer eye care professionals and their patients this enhanced offering — the proven AREDS 2 formula eye vitamin with better absorbing nutrients from the patented OcuSorb technology,” Joe Gordon, president of global consumer, vision care and surgical at Bausch + Lomb, said in the release. “We remain committed to supporting and providing the nearly 16 million Americans affected by AMD with products that address their eye health needs.”
