SAN DIEGO — A new webinar series from New England College of Optometry aims to elevate the standard of care optometrists provide to patients with keratoconus.

Gary Chu, OD, MPH, FAAO, vice president of professional affairs, and Anita Gulmiri, OD, FAAO, an attending optometrist, both from New England College of Optometry, told Healio the ultimate goal in creating the series is to improve patients’ quality of life.

The evidence-based course, Finding Keratoconus Before it Finds You, covers nuances in detecting and screening for keratoconus as well as different treatment options.

“[We will help] providers understand where corneal cross-linking fits into the patient’s journey and also where contact lenses fit in, and even how those two treatments get tied in together,” Gulmiri said.
