World Council of Optometry, CooperVision partner to advance myopia management
The World Council of Optometry and CooperVision partnered to present a resolution promoting myopia management as the standard of care at the 2022 International Myopia Conference.
“WCO is working to increase awareness of the importance of proactively treating myopia to help slow its natural course,” Sandra Block, OD, president‐elect of the WCO, said in a council press release. “With industry leader CooperVision, we are shifting the profession away from the concept of simply correcting refractive error to understanding the elements of our recommended Standard of Care for Myopia Management by Optometrists.”

According to the release, the resolution addresses three main components of evidence-based standard of care: mitigation, measurement and management.
Highlights include educating parents through frequent discussions about myopia and its risk factors; scheduling regular comprehensive vision and eye health exams to measure refractive error and axial length; and offering evidence-based interventions, such as contact lenses, spectacles and pharmaceuticals, to correct myopia or slow its progression.
