The American Optometric Association is soliciting feedback on the second edition of its Comprehensive Adult Eye and Vision Examination clinical practice guideline, which is available online for comments and suggestions until Oct. 29.

According to an AOA press release, the guideline provides recommendations for the diagnosis, management and treatment of eye and vision conditions in adult patients, based on scientific evidence, research and expert clinical opinion from relevant stakeholders, including physicians, agencies, industry representatives and the public. The association launched the 30-day review period on Sept. 29.

“The ultimate goal of AOA’s clinical practice guidelines is to equip and empower doctors of optometry to markedly improve health care quality by ensuring patients are diagnosed and treated based on the best available scientific research,” AOA President Robert C. Layman, OD, said in the release. “Putting this guideline out for public review provides an opportunity for an even broader perspective of input that’s critically important to this process.”

The finished guideline will be available in 2023, the AOA said. To provide feedback, visit aoa.org.
