Survey: Most US adults value eyesight but fewer aware of AMD
While most Americans value their eyesight, less than half surveyed are aware of age-related macular degeneration, a leading cause of blindness in older adults, according to a Bausch + Lomb press release.
An online poll of 2,073 participants found that, even though 81% of Americans would prioritize their sense of sight over other important concerns, only 44% were concerned about developing AMD as they age.

The survey also found that 61% of Americans did not know that AMD is diagnosed through a dilated eye exam, and less than half of Americans knew that vitamins and supplements can reduce the risk of AMD progression.
"The data included in the Bausch + Lomb Visionary Report is impactful as a practicing physician as it demonstrates that many of those who are vulnerable to AMD are both unaware of the risk and are unfortunately lacking a full understanding of AMD and how it can affect their vision," Rishi P. Singh, MD, said in the press release.
