The Vision Council’s Consumer inSights second quarter report revealed that 80% of survey respondents said they use vision correction, and 60% had an eye exam within the past 12 months, according to a Vision Council press release.
“We’re excited to share our first Consumer inSights report with year-over-year trended data,” Alysse Henkel, Vision Council senior director of market research and analytics, said in the release. “Overall, consumers indicated fairly steady demand for eye wear and eye care products from the first quarter to second quarter of 2022, despite the increasing inflation in the U.S. economy.”
The report was based on a survey distributed to 15,105 individuals representative of the U.S. adult population, according to the release.
Of the two-thirds of respondents who disclosed having some form of managed vision care coverage, 83% used their coverage to help pay for prescription glasses, lenses or frames, and 76% used the benefit to purchase contact lenses.
More than half of respondents who wear prescription glasses made a purchase within the past 12 months, as well as almost 80% of contact lens users. Nearly 30% of respondents reported using readers, and more than four in every 10 respondents reported wearing plano sunglasses, the release said.
The Vision Council issues the Consumer inSights report quarterly.
