CooperVision and EssilorLuxottica announced the official launch of MiSight 1 day contact lenses in China, according to a CooperVision press release.

During a virtual grand launch in early August, representatives from both countries met with domestic and international optometry and ophthalmology luminaries. More than 2,800 eye care professionals attended the event, including Juan Carlos Aragón, president of CooperVision Specialty EyeCare; Kok Leong Li, president of EssilorLuxottica Greater China Vision Care Division; and Xingtao Zhou, dean of the Eye and ENT Hospital of Fudan University.

The virtual grand launch included presentations on the science of MiSight 1 day, its 7-year clinical study design and healthy wear in children. In his remarks, Zhou emphasized that the prevalence of myopia in Chinese children and adolescents in 2020 was 52.7%, while the rate for students in primary, middle and high school reached 35.6%, 71.1% and 80.5%, respectively.

“CooperVision is dedicated to pioneering, innovative and life-changing eye care technologies,” Aragón said in the release. “Backed by an international, 7-year clinical study, we are proud to launch this groundbreaking myopia control treatment for children and adolescents in China.”

The lenses will be available in all major cities, according to the release.
