Survey: Employees willing to seek professional eye care, pay more for premium lens options
Blurry vision and light sensitivity were among the top eye care concerns reported by employees in the 2022 Transitions Optical Workplace Wellness survey, which also found people were willing to pay more for premium lens options.
According to a Transitions press release, 73% of respondents would seek help from an eye care professional for blurry vision, 52% for light sensitivity, 49% for eyestrain due to digital device use and 30% for interest in blue light protection. The survey also revealed that eyestrain or eye fatigue, headache, blurry vision and discomfort viewing bright screens affected the work productivity and performance of 78% of employees.
In addition, 86% of employees surveyed would spend more than their insurance allowance for new eyeglasses, and nearly all (96%) reported willingness to pay more for premium lens options, including UV protection (55%), blue light protection (49%) and photochromic lenses (44%), especially when recommended by an eye care professional, the release stated.
“Employees’ eyes are in overdrive,” Jonathan Ormsby, Transitions Optical senior key account manager, said in the release. “With many employees indicating they would seek care from their eye care professional for light sensitivity, digital eyestrain and an interest in blue light protection, as well as employees expressing they are willing to pay above what their insurance covers for premium lens options, it is important for eye care professionals to be aware these patient needs continue so they are able to provide solutions, helping them to see their best.”
