SightGlass Vision Diffusion Optics Technology spectacle lenses slowed the progression of myopia in children at 2 years, according to a press release from CooperVision.

The randomized CYPRESS clinical study enrolled 256 children between the ages of 6 and 10 years old with myopia between –0.75 D and –4.5 D. By the end of the 2-year period, 85% of the children who wore the spectacle lenses full time had less than 1 D of myopia progression, and 41% displayed no clinically meaningful progression in refractive error as compared with 17% in the control group.

“Our team has been singularly focused on advancing medical science to not only correct children’s vision, but also to help slow the progression of myopia,” Joe Rappon, OD, MS, FAAO, chief medical officer at SightGlass Vision, said in the release. “Applying our Diffusion Optics Technology to spectacle lenses makes myopia management straightforward to integrate within eye care practices and easy to become part of children’s everyday lives.”

The study is now in its third year, and the spectacle lenses will be available in the Netherlands this month, the company said.
