New mixed reality headset offers automated screening, full threshold exams
Heru announced the commercial release of re:Vive, a portable mixed reality headset designed to provide automated screening and diagnostic exams without the constant presence of a physician.
“Heru partnered with Vision Source, North America’s largest network of independent optometrists, to embrace the medical optometry community,” Heru CEO and founder, Mohamed Abou Shousha, MD, PhD, said in a press release from Heru. “With access to their network of over 3,600 locally owned practices and 4,500 doctors, Heru is helping empower eye care physicians with breakthrough technology that will provide better access to care for their patients.”
The headset does not require a dark room to conduct examinations or additional testing space, which prevents a disrupted workflow, according to the press release. It also uses technology that can detect ocular diseases faster as well as track patients’ gazing in real-time during exams, which increases productivity and data quality.
Heru said the portability of re:Vive even allows physicians to continue their work remotely without compromising the efficiency or accuracy of clinical results.
According to Heru, re:Vive provides “clinical results comparable to the Humphrey perimeter, a universally used static perimetry system to measure and examine visual fields, especially for glaucoma management.”
“Doctors and staff members can now spend less time on testing and more time on what matters most—providing care and solutions to patients,” Amir KhoshnevisOD, Vision Source chief medical officer, said in the release.
